Volunteer Spotlight: Serving with Consistency, Care, & Community

Each month, a small group from Tucson’s Kol Ami synagogue—the Men of Kol Ami (MoKA)—come together to prepare and serve dinner at the Primavera Men’s Shelter, bringing nourishment, kindness, and connection to residents experiencing homelessness.

Tony Zinman, juvenile public defender for Pima County, first volunteered while in college. “Before I got started, MoKA volunteered a couple of times a year, but I convinced everyone we should do it once a month because it was such a great experience,” he says.

Guided by the Jewish principle of Tikun Olam, or “healing the world,” Tony and his fellow volunteers see their work as both meaningful and rewarding. “Seeing the faces and appreciation of the residents is one of the highlights of my month,” he shares. “We have this great camaraderie, and the satisfaction of helping out, cooking, and serving the meals is really meaningful.”

Through MoKA’s monthly dinners, acts of gemilut chasadim—lovingkindness—come alive, creating meaningful connections between volunteers and the residents they serve.

Thank you, Tony and the Men of Kol Ami, for all you do!

In-Kind Donations: Updates & Needs

Current Donation Needs

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community over the past few months, we're received a significant influx of in-kind donations. We are so grateful for this outpouring of support - thank you so much!

At this time, due to limited storage capacity, we are temporarily accepting a smaller set of high-need items to ensure donations can be distributed to our programs quickly and effectively.

We are currently only accepting donation deliveries of:

  • Non-perishable food items
  • Hygiene products
  • Brand-new men's & women's underwear (all sizes)
  • Empty pill bottles - only as needed, contact Sophia Smith-Gatto to confirm

These items can be delivered to our Training Center office (151 W. 40th St., Tucson, AZ) on Mondays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. without an appointment. To deliver donations on a different day, please contact Sophia Smith-Gatto at ssmith.gatto@primavera.org to schedule an appointment in advance.

Another way to support our programs is by purchasing items directly from our programs' Amazon Wishlists! These are updated regularly to reflect current needs, and links for each program's list can be found on our website.

Support STAR Village: Breakfast Needs

We also have an ongoing need for breakfast items at STAR Village! A list of specific items needed can be found below.

If you're interested in supporting our participants at STAR Village by donating breakfast items, please contact Sophia Smith-Gatto to schedule a time for delivery.
