Each month, a small group from Tucson’s Kol Ami synagogue—the Men of Kol Ami (MoKA)—come together to prepare and serve dinner at the Primavera Men’s Shelter, bringing nourishment, kindness, and connection to residents experiencing homelessness. 

Tony Zinman, juvenile public defender for Pima County, first volunteered while in college. “Before I got started, MoKA volunteered a couple of times a year, but I convinced everyone we should do it once a month because it was such a great experience,” he says. 

Guided by the Jewish principle of Tikun Olam, or “healing the world,” Tony and his fellow volunteers see their work as both meaningful and rewarding. “Seeing the faces and appreciation of the residents is one of the highlights of my month,” he shares. “We have this great camaraderie, and the satisfaction of helping out, cooking, and serving the meals is really meaningful.” 

Through MoKA’s monthly dinners, acts of gemilut chasadim—lovingkindness—come alive, creating meaningful connections between volunteers and the residents they serve.

Primavera joined dozens of other nonprofit and service organizations, community partners, local businesses, and community members at Cyclovia Tucson's Downtown to Amphi Route event on Sunday, April 12.

Primavera staff were present at the Amphi Hub at Building Bridges Community Center, sharing information about our programs and resources. It was wonderful to connect with everyone who stopped by!

Cyclovia Tucson is "Arizona's biggest block party," bringing people together for a fun, car-free day for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy. Attendees walked, biked, rolled, and skated through neighborhoods while participating in free activities, supporting local businesses, and connecting with the community.

Recently, federal food assistance programs have been challenged, food prices are rising, and the need for food assistance across the community is growing.
