Nikki Halle of the Halle Foundation, Primavera Chief Legal Officer Ivelisse Bonilla, and Primavera Chief Executive Officer Tisha Tallman take part in a roundtable discussion at the Primavera Foundation Community Solutions on Housing and Homelessness Convening held May 13 at Santa Rosa Cafe in Tucson.

More than 100 community leaders gathered at the Primavera Foundation Community Solutions on Housing and Homelessness convening held May 13 to address the need for collaboration to address the growing housing crisis amid federal funding cuts. 

Primavera CEO Tisha Tallman welcomed more than 100 leaders and organizers, encouraging them to remain hopeful and pull resources together, noting that everyone's collaboration is needed now more than ever.

"Thank you for your hard work and your commitment to community," Tallman told those in attendance.

Leaders from government, business, education, nonprofit and the faith community shared the impact of cuts within their organizations and proposed ways to combine resources and continue lifting community.  

Those in attendance said they were worried about vulnerable people, the increasing need for medical respite, the impact of camp sweeps with no dignified solutions, and the criminalization of homelessness.

"The biggest topic of discussion has been the absence of human dignity, the difficulty of reaching people on the street, and getting resources to those in need, said Primavera Foundation Sr. Director of Outreach and Men's Shelter Jodii Weiner. She called on those in attendance to combine resources to help save lives. 

Others discussed the growing need for education regarding the causes of homelessness and what the community can do about it.

Many provided words of hope saying the community collaborated successfully during COVID and can do so again now.

Organizations committed resources such as volunteers, funding, education, housing, employment, ongoing collaboration, talent and continued networking.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to Primavera's Water, Rest, & Shade campaign supporting Primavera's essential heat relief services throughout the summer months. Together, we raised over $15,000 in just 15 days! 

Our cooling centers are open and participants are already accessing much-needed water, rest, shade, and other emergency resources.

In addition, Primavera's mobile outreach team is out in the community offering heat relief supplies and services, including transportation to our cooling centers.

We may have met TEP's matching challenge, but there's more work to be done, and you can join us.

Let's keep the momentum going!

Primavera celebrated volunteers at a Volunteer Appreciation event in May.

Those in attendance included staff, volunteers, Primavera Co-Founder Nancy Bissell, Primavera Board Member Susan Tarrence and Primavera CEO Tisha Tallman.

"One of the most meaningful parts of this event was seeing volunteers connect not only with staff, but with each other," said Philanthropy Services Coordinator Christina Rienzo, who organized the event. "It was a reminder that this work is about community—building it, strengthening it, and celebrating it. Our volunteers show up with heart and humility, and this party was just a small way of saying thank you for the big impact they have every day."

Primavera has received an $11,000 grant from the Parker Hannifin Foundation.

The funds were raised by the Parker Tucson Engagement Team and Primavera was selected by the Tucson-based staff.

St. Mark’s has been a dedicated partner in our mission, consistently preparing and serving dinners for the Men’s Shelter for the past 30 years.

Members of the Rincon High School Class of 2025 delivered critical items to the Primavera Foundation on April 9. 

As part of their Second Annual Rincon Cares Donation Drive, students in the Rincon High School Class of 2025 delivered critical items to the Primavera Foundation Training Center, including backpacks, toothbrushes, hand sanitizer, new socks, blankets and more on April 9. 

Jennifer Vasquez, College & Career Readiness Program Coordinator at Rincon High School, coordinated the drive to collect and deliver items for several organizations throughout Tucson, including the Primavera Foundation, Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, The Diaper Bank, pet shelters and children's services organizations.

In partnership with City of South Tucson, Primavera is making garden plots available at the following properties: Las Abuelitas and La Capilla.

Community gardens provide social connection and leadership opportunities, and play an important role at our properties. Desert-friendly landscaping, conserving water and planting native, drought-tolerant plants are the focus. Primavera partners with community members and other agencies to establish our network of community gardens, whose benefits include:

Throughout the year, garden participants receive education, tips and challenges to help integrate more green behaviors in their daily lives. They also can be vital economic development tools.
