Thank you to everyone who joined Everyone Runs on Sunday, April 6 as they hosted Southern Arizona’s Favorite Trail Race at Catalina State Park at two distances: half-marathon and 5.3 miles. 

The race served as a fundraiser for Primavera Foundation, with Everyone Runs matching the donations collected for a total of $1,000. 

Everyone Runs is hosting another event on November 9 to celebrate Veterans Day and support our Project Action for Veterans program, so stay tuned for more updates! The event features three distances: 10.6 and 5.3-mile trail races and a 5K road run. Primavera Foundation is hosting its Second Annual Golf Tournament at Omni Tucson National Resort's Sonoran Course on Saturday, November 15! 

The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. and finish with an awards banquet reception, which will include a luncheon, raffle, prizes and more!

Primavera Foundation CEO Tisha Tallman spoke to members of the City of South Tucson's mayor and council about the results from the 2024 NeighborWorks America Community Impact Measurement (CIM) Survey at its March meeting.

The survey, conducted every three years, measures resident sentiment on services, safety and community involvement, and informs Primavera’s future efforts in South Tucson.

Primavera has conducted the survey in 2013, 2016, 2019 and 2024.

Diane Nissen assembles hygiene kits for the Primavera Foundation Mobile Outreach team. 

Thanks to a robust social action program, members of Congregation M’kor Hayim are no strangers to community projects. But for new volunteer Diane Nissen, the experience has opened her eyes to the full scope and breadth of services offered by Primavera Foundation.  

“I didn’t really know how the community supported homeless people, so I’ve learned quite a bit,” said Nissen. "It makes me feel good to come and do something. I look forward to being around folks that are really doing important things, and I like being helpful.”  

During a volunteer event hosted by Primavera Foundation Philanthropy Officer Allison Wexler in January, Diane joined eight other members of the congregation to assemble over 100 hygiene kits for Primavera's Mobile Outreach team.  

“I’m inspired by the people that go out into the field and distribute these things and make contact with these folks,” said Nissen. “It’s also good to know that Primavera has housing and job programs so that it’s not just a question of giving out supplies but hopefully moving some people out of homelessness.” 

Nissen said anyone wishing to get involved should “take the leap.” “You never know who you're going to meet and what you can do to help other people,” Nissen said.

Fletcher Pilates is hosting a critical items drive through the end of April for Primavera participants, collecting new clothing, sunscreen, cooling towels, battery-operated fans, and more. 

"It's up to us as small business owners to take an interest in what’s happening locally," said Kyria Sabin, founder and Director of Fletcher Pilates, 1980 E River Rd, Suite 250. "There's a real need in Tucson, statewide, and nationally for everyone to fill the gaps because who knows what’s going to happen with government funding? That’s what spurred me to act." 

Sabin says that her colleagues working the front desk were also advocating for Primavera Foundation to be chosen as the charity or cause of the month, because they noticed that "the need is greater now more than ever." 

Her family also has a history of taking action in their community, as they spearheaded a "Jimmy Carter-style" program called the Mexico-Texas Low-Income Housing Project to build houses for one another in the Border Colonias region between Texas and Mexico. 

"I think it’s essential that we each step up and do what we can where we can," Sabin said. "Be aware of the organizations who are doing good work and identify the ones that you think are important.”

By utilizing this dollar-for-dollar credit, you can ensure that money you would otherwise pay in taxes is going directly to your neighbors here in Arizona experiencing homelessness.

The maximum credit that can be claimed on the 2024 Arizona return for donations made to Qualified Charitable Organizations (QCOs) is $470 for single, married filing separate or head of household taxpayers, and $938 for married filing joint taxpayers. 

2. Submit Form 321 and file with your 2024 taxes, noting your donation amount and Qualified Charitable Organization #20680.

Since 1974, National Volunteer Week has been an opportunity to recognize the impact of volunteer service and the power of volunteers to tackle society’s greatest challenges, to build stronger communities and be a force that transforms the world. It takes place every April during Global Volunteer Month.

Each year, National Volunteer Week is a time to shine a light on the people and causes that inspire us to serve, recognizing and thanking volunteers who lend their time, talent and voice to make a difference in their communities.
