All three job coaches at the Primavera Foundation completed the Pima Smartscape Landscaping Professionals training program last month.

The training, which focused on sustainable landscaping practices that are most suitable for our region, wrapped in February and included eight three-hour classes, followed by a resources/marketing review class and an exam.

"I am constantly getting requests for advice on different aspects of landscaping, so having the knowledge to properly address my customers questions is a great addition to what we have to offer," said Ryan Eaglen, Primavera Works Lead Job Coach.

Gerardo Salas Barajas, Landscaping Job Coach with Primavera Works, echoed Eaglen's sentiments. 

"I really appreciate Primavera for helping me expand my knowledge with this training, including how to identify plants and trees, what type of soil we have here in Arizona, irrigation techniques and other items that help me do a better job and help my customers more," Salas Barajas said.

Patience Mac Mackengo was an asylum seeker, leaving the Republic of Congo in 1987.

After relocating to several countries, he settled in Texas, where he was granted asylum and a work permit.

Fluent in English, Patience quickly began working to support himself. Over time, he married his wife Telma and the couple had one child.

In pursuit of a better life for their family, the Mackengos relocated to Tucson, where they achieved the dream of homeownership with the help of the Primavera Homeownership Program.

Through the program, Patience received financial education and housing counseling services until he was ready to apply for a mortgage. The family was eligible for financial assistance of over $54,000, which was applied toward their down payment and closing costs.

With an affordable monthly payment and the stability of a 30-year mortgage, Patience and his family have established their roots in Tucson.

The Arizona Research Center for Housing Equity and Sustainability (ARCHES) is hosting a screening of Fault Lines: Inside the Housing Crisis at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 5, at the César E. Chávez Building on The University of Arizona campus. 

This documentary centers on three stories of people navigating the complexity of our housing system – a single father seeking permanent housing for his family, a housing activist promoting new legislation that would streamline production, and a neighborhood group opposing a development in their neighborhood. It dives headfirst into the housing crisis to explain how we got here and predict where we might be headed. 

Following the screening, Primavera CEO Tisha Tallman will join Fault Lines Director Nate Houghteling, and Southwest Institute for Research on Women (SIROW) Associate Research Professor Keith Bentele, PhD, for a discussion on what we in Arizona can learn from the experiences depicted in the documentary. The discussion will be moderated by Kenny Wong, Co-Director of the Arizona Research Center for Housing Equity and Sustainability (ARCHES) and Drachman Institute Housing Lab Coordinator at University of Arizona.

We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of Jeremy Kneller-Hernandez, owner of Kneller's Delicatessen & Appetizing, for his recent visit to the Primavera Resource Center!

Kneller-Hernandez donated and served warm meals such as hot dogs, brisket and egg sandwiches to about 100 participants from 8 a.m. until items ran out at 11 a.m.

The 2025 Jim Click Millions for Tucson Raffle is officially underway! 

Mr. Click is raffling off three great prizes this year: the Grand Prize is a new 2025 Kia Carnival Hybrid SX Prestige (MSRP $54,510).

The second prize is two round-trip, first-class airline tickets to anywhere in the world (some restrictions apply). The third prize is $5,000 in cash.

Join Everyone Runs on Sunday, April 6 as they host Southern Arizona’s Favorite Trail Race at Catalina State Park at two distances: half-marathon and 5.3 miles. 

The race will serve as a fundraiser for Primavera Foundation, and Everyone Runs will match donations collected.
