Inmates preparing for the world outside prison walls face many challenges and one of the most important is finding a good job.
That’s why Primavera Works Employment Specialist Sean Hughes recently visited local prisons to conduct mock job interviews with inmates on July 17.
The mock interviews are designed to make job applicants more comfortable with the hiring process and real job interviews, helping them prepare to re-enter the workforce.
As someone with a prior conviction himself, Hughes is able to give inmates advice from someone who found meaningful work after incarceration.
“We have to be advocates for people transitioning to a new life,” Hughes says. “We have to be there to help guide them through it.”
Hughes says his success story in the working world after prison is an example of what others can achieve and he wants them to believe that “‘if he can do it, I can do it.’”
“That’s my goal… to give them hope,” Hughes said.
